With the start of a medical residency program beginning at Community Medical Center, a developer is proposing the construction of resident housing in the southern portion of the township, near the hospital.
The housing is planned for 478 Lakehurst Road, however the property is located in the Village Office zone and would not normally allow a residential use. Therefore the township’s zoning board is being asked to approve a use variance, commonly known as a “D” variance, to allow construction to move forward.
The developer is seeking approval to construct a 9,276 square foot, two-story Medical Resident Housing Building with a parking lot and an access driveway along Smith Road. Other improvements proposed include landscaping, lighting and stormwater management, a notice on the project said.
In addition to the use variance, the board is also being asked to approve a parking area in the front yard setback, where no parking is normally permitted. Design waivers are being requested for relief of a requirement to provide a number of raised medians in the parking area, as well as permission to include dead-end parking areas, which are normally not permitted.
The notice did not state how many dwelling units would be included in the building. The property was purchased in Dec. 2020 for $1,150,000.
The zoning board hearing will be held Nov. 14, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at the township municipal complex.
