A man who traveled from his home state of Louisiana to New Jersey to have sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl he met online will spend the next seven years in state prison following his sentencing Monday.

Spencer Caudle, 36, of Prairieville, LA, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Kimarie Rahill to the seven-year term in New Jersey State Prison as part of his guilty plea to sexual assault in connection with an incident that occurred in Toms River on May 27, 2023.

Caudle, prosecutors said, will also be subject to the terms of Megan’s Law, Nicole’s Law – which permanently prohibits him from having any contact with his victim – and parole supervision for life. Caudle pled guilty to the charge before Rahill on April 2, 2024.

According to authorities, an investigation by the prosecutor’s office and Toms River detectives revealed that on May 27, 2023, Caudle traveled from Louisiana to the Toms River area and had sexual contact with a 14 year-old victim.

Caudle had been communicating with the victim through the Whisper messenger application, and a further investigation revealed that Caudle planned on returning to the area to have sexual contact with the victim again. On June 16, 2023, Caudle flew from New Orleans to Newark Liberty International Airport, where he was taken into custody by detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, United States Department of Homeland Security, and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department. Caudle was subsequently transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he has been lodged ever since.
