A thief broke open the front door of a popular Toms River restaurant and was caught on surveillance video walking down a public street with the business’s safe.
Breakin’ Bread, an Italian eatery located on Fischer Boulevard, posted photos of the suspect – and damage to its entrance – on Tuesday. The restaurant later published a Facebook post (embedded below) containing videos of the incident. In the video, a man in dark clothing is seen using an object, possibly a cinder block, to break the glass door of the restaurant and enter. He is then seen sneaking through the hole in the door, and a later surveillance photograph shows him calmly walking down Merrimack Street with the business’s safe in his hands.
“I was robbed last night,” the restaurant owner posted. “Someone broke window with a huge paver came in the store stole register and safe. Anyone identify this person reach out. Walking down Merrimac drive with my safe!”
He asked local locksmiths to be on the lookout for someone who is requesting a safe be opened.
The good news, however, is the community support generated by the social media posts.
“We truly appreciate everyone who has shared our post, commented and personally messaged us,” Breakin’ Bread posted late Tuesday. “We are blessed with all of you and our community. Truly a great place. Life is hard in so many aspects. But stuff like this and people that you guys make it better and it’s going to make us stronger together. We are open and good to serve you as we always have with amazing sandwiches and food.”
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact Toms River police.
