Catalytic Converters Stolen From 6 Cars in Toms River; 12-Car Burglary String Reported

Both mainland and island neighborhoods of Toms River have been affected by automotive burglars and thieves over the past week, with the most recent incident having played out of the last 48 hours.

During those hours, unknown suspects cut the catalytic converters from six vehicles on Colonial Drive, Curtis Place, Morristown Drive, Ivan Court and Hilltop Drive, according to s statement from police. The victim vehicles included: a Kia Soul, Kia Sorento, Kia Sportage, two Volkswagen Jettas and a Honda Accord

Police said the only surveillance footage available was a low-quality photo that depicts a white SUV which is believed to be a suspect vehicle.

Ortley Auto Burglaries

Police are also still investigating a string of auto burglaries that have recently taken place in Ortley Beach. According to the Ortley Beach Voters and Taxpayers Association, police told residents of the barrier island neighborhood of 12 vehicles that were affected between Feb. 22 and 24.

2 unlocked vehicles entered. Stolen purse.

304 Coolidge Avenue
Unlocked vehicle. No proceeds.

1806 Bay Blvd
Unlocked vehicle. No proceeds.
2/22/24 @ 8PM – 7AM
1835 Washington Ave
Unlocked vehicle. Ray Ban sunglasses stolen.
2/22/24 @ Midnight – 8AM

Unlocked vehicle. No proceeds.

According to Toms River police, ways to prevent vehicle theft include but are not limited to:
  • Parking in well-lit areas close to public entrances.
  • Regularly moving your car’s spot or use a closed garage.
  • Installing an anti-theft device.
  • Installing motion-sensitive lights and cameras in your parking area.
  • Painting your catalytic converter to deter buyers.
