Police say a driver, who was later cited for numerous traffic offenses, crashed his vehicle into a residential home last weekend.

According to police spokeswoman Jillian Messina, police, EMS, and fire units were dispatched to the intersection of Adams Avenue and Fischer Boulvard June 30 for a reported motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle into a home.

The initial investigation, she said, revealed Steven Lecates, 23 of Florence N.J., was traveling east on Adams when he failed to yield at the stop sign and crashed into a vehicle that was traveling north on Fischer Boulevard. After impact, Lecates’ vehicle hit several large decorative stones on the front yard of a house on the corner, subsequently pushing one into the residence before coming to rest.

The homeowners were home at the time, but did not sustain any injuries, according to the statement. The female passenger in Lecates’ vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of Toms River fire companies. She suffered injuries to her legs and abdomen and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.

An Inspector from the Toms River Building Department responded to the scene to ensure the home was structurely safe. The Mr. Lecates received citations for careless driving, disregard of a stop sign, and failure to possess an insurance card. The accident remains under investigation by the Toms River Officer Eric Nelson.
