A motor vehicle accident in Toms River on Sunday sent six people to local hospitals, police said, as the accident remains under investigation.
According to a statement from police officers were dispatched to Route 9, near the intersection of Hecht Drive, for a traffic crash at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday night. The initial investigation revealed Elvis Guadulupe Dominguez Avila, whose address is unknown, was traveling southbound on Route 9 when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an oncoming vehicle, forcing it off the roadway and into a driveway exit, where it struck a third vehicle.
All six occupants of the three vehicles were transported to various hospitals including Monmouth Medical Center South, Community Medical Center and three to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Assisting at the scene were the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff CSI, and the state highway diversion team.
The accident remains under investigation by the Toms River Traffic Safety Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Charges are pending, according to the statement.
