Toms River officials have approved a plan to build an apartment complex on a property within the business zone on Route 9.
The township’s zoning board granted final approval last week to The Open Door LLC, which owns the property at 1658 Route 9 (Lakewood Road), to construct the multifamily housing development. The board approved the measure with a supermajority, granting a use variance to the developer since residential construction is not normally permitted within the highway business zone.
The parcel of land, located next to a Wawa convenience store and filling station, is currently populated with a building containing commercial tenants. The developer gained approval to build a total of 13 apartment units, each of which will feature three bedrooms.
