Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill praised the township council for voting unanimously to authorize the purchase of the property for preservation.

“Since we took office in 2020, it’s over 55 acres of open space we’ve preserved in all four wards in town,” he said.

According to the resolution authorizing the acquisition, the property, just west of the Garden State Parkway overpass and just east of New Hampshire Avenue, is contiguous and adjacent to a landlocked township-owned parcel that has already been preserved, and would expand the township’s open space inventory.

The ordinance directs the mayor’s office to negotiate with the property owner before eminent domain proceedings are considered.
