Toms River officials on Wednesday night voted in favor of acquiring a 7.14-acre property advertised as “one of the last remaining large parcels of land in North Dover” by a negotiated sale or an eminent domain taking.
The property is located at 1585 Silverton Road. According to tax records, it is owned by 1585 Silverton Road LLC, a company registered to Binyamin Beitel, of Brooklyn, N.Y It was purchased in May 2022 for $795,000, but is currently being offered for sale for $1.1 million, marketed as “ideal for a private end user to build your dream mansion, estate or a possible 4-5 lot subdivision.”
Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill praised the township council for voting unanimously to authorize the purchase of the property for preservation.
“Since we took office in 2020, it’s over 55 acres of open space we’ve preserved in all four wards in town,” he said.
According to the resolution authorizing the acquisition, the property, just west of the Garden State Parkway overpass and just east of New Hampshire Avenue, is contiguous and adjacent to a landlocked township-owned parcel that has already been preserved, and would expand the township’s open space inventory.
The ordinance directs the mayor’s office to negotiate with the property owner before eminent domain proceedings are considered.
