Toms River firefighters brought a house fire under control in about 20 minutes June 19, after being dispatched to the home at 3253 Mystic Port Place in the East Dover section of the township.

Firefighters from the East Dover and Island Heights companies responded to the call at 6:31 p.m.

On arrival, firefighters encountered heavy black smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home, said East Dover Fire Chief Joseph Catapano. There were initially reports of entrapment and possible occupants inside the home, but ultimately it was determined the residents were not inside the house.

Catapano said the fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm fire that brought in units from Toms River Fire Companies 1 and 2 for assistance. Firefighters “conducted an aggressive fire attack as a search of the home was initiated.”

Toms River Police were able to account for all residents, officials said.

The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes. Firefighters remained on scene to extinguish small hidden pockets of fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Toms River Township Fire Bureau of Fire Prevention and Toms River Police Department.
