A pedestrian was struck by a Toms River Police Department patrol vehicle Sunday night, officials confirmed.
At about 10 p.m., 42-year-old William Carberry was attempting to cross the roadway near the intersection of Fischer Boulevard and Adams Avenue when he was struck by a Toms River Police patrol vehicle, said police spokeswoman Jillian Messina. Carberry was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment.
The name of the officer who was driving the vehicle was not disclosed.
Per protocol, Messina said, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit responded to the scene. The accident is currently under investigation.
