Toms River police are continuing to investigate a motorcycle accident that claimed the life of a township man last weekend.
According to a statement from police, Nicholas Cacciapaglia, 24 of Toms River, was learning to ride a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the parking lot of Ocean County Powersports when he lost control and struck a curb and entered Route 37. The incident occurred Sunday, March 13, 2022 at about 7:30 p.m.
Once on Route 37, the bike went down and Cacciapaglia slid into the center lane, where he was hit by a passing vehicle driven by Domenic Maruca, 62, of Toms River. Cacciapaglia was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police said Ocean County Powersports did not own the motorcycle and was closed at the time of the accident.
There were no signs of impairment, and no summons were issued, said police spokeswoman Jillian Messina. The accident remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald.
