A real estate developer has proposed 24 apartments to be constructed on the property of a new shopping center in the Silverton section of Toms River.
The township’s Board of Adjustment will take up the matter at its Feb. 10 meeting. According to a planning notice, the developer, “State Liquors, LLC/Retail, LLC” is seeking to build 24 residential apartments at the shopping center located at 1922 Hooper Avenue, a new retail shopping center that current houses a Buy Rite liquor store, restaurants, a salon and other merchants.
The notice did not detail where on the property the apartments would be built. Because the shopping center is located in the High Business (HB) zone, a use variance is required before any residential development can take place. That requires the developer to meet positive and negative criteria for the proposal, and receive a supermajority vote from the Board of Adjustment, commonly known as the zoning board.
The developer is being represented by attorney Joseph D. Coronato. The meeting will be held Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the township municipal complex on Washington Street.
