Barrier island residents likely noticed the beginning of the transition to higher speed limits along Route 35 last week, and by Saturday afternoon, the official switch to blinking lights has been completed.
Motorists, every year, are reminded by local officials to take notice of the flashing lights in order to exercise caution – as well as avoid stopping unnecessarily on the highway.
A few lights along Route 35 remain active year-round, including Washington Avenue in Lavallette where borough hall and Lavallette Elementary School are located, plus throughout Seaside Heights.
Speed limits island-wide were increased over a week ago to their non-summer standards. Most of Route 35 is now limited to 40 or 45 m.p.h.
