The National Weather Service is predicting a decidedly rainy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for the Shore area, the latest forecast from the agency said.
While it was earlier thought that some snow could fall in the northern and western reaches of New Jersey, an incoming storm looks to be a rain-only event for the entire state – and temperatures will actually be unseasonably mild.
There will be a chance of rain, mainly after 1 p.m., on Christmas Eve (Thursday), with otherwise mostly cloudy skies, with a high near 60. It will be windy. Rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch are possible.
The night of Christmas Eve, the rain will turn steady and become heavier, with a low of 46. On Christmas morning, the rain will continue before 10 a.m., then a chance of showers until 1 p.m. The high will be near 46 with winds gusting in upwards of 35 m.p.h. at times.
The storm is forecast to clear by Christmas night and Saturday will be sunny, though cooler, with a high of just 32 degrees.
