Man Shot, Critically Injured in Toms River; Officials Say No Threat to Public

A man was shot at approximately 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Toms River, according to a joint statement from township police and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

The short statement, issued at about 10:40 p.m., said local police and the prosecutor’s office’s Major Crimes Unit were investigating a shooting that occurred on Main Street in Toms River. It was not specified whether the shooting occurred outside or behind closed doors.



The preliminary investigation has revealed that one male victim had been wounded. He was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune “with life threatening injuries,” the statement said.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” the statement went on to say. “More details will be released when they become available. There is no danger to the public at this time.”
