Ocean County has become one of the few counties in the nation to confirm more than 1,000 cases of the novel coronavirus among its residents, and Toms River Township’s number of cases stood at 156 on Tuesday, as the county seat’s number of infected continues to rise. Toms River has the second-most infections in the county.
Lakewood still leads the county by a significant margin in total cases, data from the Ocean County Health Department showed Tuesday. Lakewood’s number of cases stood at 438, more than 40 percent of the county’s total.
The next-most affected town was Toms River followed by Brick, with 104 cases, then Jackson, with 100 cases.
Several Ocean County municipalities have yet to confirm any cases of the virus. Eagleswood, Harvey Cedars, Mantoloking, Ocean Gate, Pine Beach and Tuckerton had zero cases. A few towns, Island Heights, Lavallette, Seaside Park, Ship Bottom, Surf City, Barnegat Light and Bay Head, had only one or two cases.
