Toms River police have arrested a man in connection with the aggravated assault of a school employee after, they say, a man went into the building after school hours.
According to police spokeswoman Jillian Messina, on Thursday at about 6 p.m., (after school hours during an extracurricular event), police were called to Walnut Street Elementary School for reports of an assault on a school employee. The victim was working on the second floor of the building when they were confronted by an unknown male who asked to use the bathroom, Messina said.
When directed to the downstairs bathroom, the suspect allegedly grabbed the victim by the arm and pulled her into the hallway. The victim broke free and ran down the stairs, being followed by the suspect, who then exited the school through a side door.
Through security camera footage the officers identified the suspect as Daron Griffin, 21 of Toms River. On Friday, Feb. 14, Griffin was apprehended and charged with Aggravated Assault and Criminal Trespass.
