A tip generated by a social media post by Toms River police led to the arrest of a suspect in a bank robbery that occurred New Year’s Eve.
The robbery took place at the Chase Bank branch at 2 Route 37 West. The suspect presented a note to the teller and left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
On Thursday, Patrick T. Callahan, 45 of Toms River, was charged with the bank robbery. Callahan was arrested Thursday evening in Burlington County by the Mount Laurel Police Department “following a tip originating from our social media page,” police spokeswoman Jillian Messina said.
The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit, K-9 Unit, and the FBI Red Bank Office assisted in the investigation.
“The Toms River Police Department would like to thank the citizens who responded to and shared the Facebook post,” the department said in a statement. “Working together sharing information helps create a safer community for everyone.”
Callahan will be lodged in the county jail pending a bail hearing in Ocean County Superior Court. Anyone with additional information in the matter is asked to contact investigating TRPD Detective Quinn at 732-349-0150, ext. 1361.
