Toms River will soon be home to a new skateboard park, following the adoption of the township’s capital budget Tuesday night.
The township council set aside $300,000 for the design and construction of the park, which will be located within Bey Lea Park, off Bay Avenue.
“We actually have a design underway and the funds are in the bond [ordinance],” said Councilman George Wittmann.
The governing body is expected to approve a contract for an architect to complete the design of the park at its next meeting, said Township Administrator Don Guardian. Then, bids will be solicited for construction.
The skate park will be located in the area of Bey Lea near the existing township police headquarters.
“I think in the next six months you’ll see a skate park there,” said Guardian. “It’s pretty easy – you only have a couple builders that design skate parks, so if they present a good bid it will go quickly.”
