Cops Confirm Shots Fired in South Toms River Neighborhood; No Injuries

Authorities have confirmed reports that gunshots were fired in a residential neighborhood in South Toms River Wednesday night, though there were no reported injuries.

South Toms River Police were called to a residence on Charles Drive in South Toms River for a report of shots fired at about 7 p.m. South Toms River Police, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, a statement from the prosecutor’s office said.



“Thankfully, no one was hurt even though this gunfire occurred in the middle of a residential neighborhood,” said Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. “Detectives have been working through the night to determine who is responsible.”

Several bullets and shell casings were recovered from the scene, he added.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, South Toms River Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit are currently investigating this incident. Anyone with information on this investigation is urged to contact the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027 or Detective Timothy Meier of the South Toms River Police Department at 732-349-0313, ext. 112.

The South Toms River Police Department will have extra patrols in the area, officials said.
