Toms River police said a 12-year-old girl from the township was struck by a van while attempting to cross Vaughn Avenue at about 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The child was traveling north on Vaughn on her bicycle when she attempted to cross the road and was struck by a van owned by 21Plus and driven by Charles Santoriello Jr., 34 of Toms River, an employee of the company.
Santoriello was not considered to be at fault for the accident, said police spokeswoman Jillian Messina.
The girl was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center by Toms River Police EMS as a precautionary measure. There were no other injuries. The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Bartoshek.
