Toms River police charged a school bus driver with DWI on Monday after she rear-ended another school bus while pulling into the Ocean County Vocational Technical School facility on Old Freehold Road at 7:30 a.m.
The Lacey Township school district driver, Cheryl Rooth, 57 of Whiting, had not been drinking alcohol, police spokeswoman Jillian Messina said. Police suspected, however, that she had been impaired by prescription medication at the time of the accident. A total of eight students suffered minor injuries, three of whom were juveniles.
Messina said Rooth did not stop her bus in time and rear-ended another school bus in front of her. She is facing charged of DWI, DWI in a school zone, DWI through a school crossing, and DWI with a minor in the vehicle.
The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety officer Robert Westfall
