A leader of a Boy Scout pack in Toms River has been indicted on charges of stealing from the organization.
Louis Freund, 52, of Toms River, was indicted on a charge of theft by unlawful taking for allegedly diverting money from Boy Scout Pack #57 in Toms River to himself while serving as the pack’s treasurer.
A grand jury subpoena served upon TD Bank revealed 16 ATM withdrawals totaling approximately $3,850 and numerous purchases from various retailers that were “not for the benefit of Boy Scout Pack #57” totaling approximately $695, said Bryan Huntenberg, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
“The parents and kids that volunteer their time for an organization such as the Boy Scouts deserve better than this” Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said.
