Officials said Friday that a man jumped to his death from the parking deck that serves the Ocean County courthouse and government complex.

According to the county prosecutor’s office, the incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m Thursday. Spokeswoman Bryan Huntenberg said Toms River police responded to the Ocean County Parking Garage located at 119 Hooper Ave. in reference to a man laying on the ground with severe trauma to the head.

It was determined that Richard Hernon, 38, of Toms River, leapt to his death from the top floor of the garage. The incident is being considered a suicide and there were no signs of foul play. Huntenberg said Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy and Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer reviewed security footage to confirm.
