Toms River Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide Following Drug Test

Ocean County authorities have charged a Toms River man with vehicular homicide after a blood test showed he had fentanyl and morphine in his system following a fatal accident.

Daniel Reed, 34, was charged today in connection with the June 30, 2018 accident that claimed the life of Jean Divona, 82. According to s statement from the Ocean County Prosecutors Office, Reed was driving his 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on New Hampshire Avenue, failed to maintain his lane of travel, and crossed over the centerline, striking Divona’s 2005 Toyota Camry head-on.



Divona was transported to Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus in Lakewood, New Jersey where she succumbed to her injuries.

Reed was immediately transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for a blood test. Prosecutors say Reed’s blood test revealed that he was impaired by fentanyl and morphine at the time of the crash. He was arrested this morning at his residence in Toms River by Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Toms River Township Police.

Reed is currently lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
