A man driving a golf cart-style vehicle is in critical but stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center today after he fell from the cart while making maneuvers during Wednesday night’s Halloween parade.

Harold Oswald, 80, performing “various maneuvers in the roadway” when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to tip, said police spokeswoman Jillian Messina.

“He was thrown from the cart, striking his head on the pavement,” said Messina.

Oswald was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center with a skull fracture and is listed as critical but stable condition. It was also discovered that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, nor was the cart equipped with safety belts.

Due to the popularity of the parade, police believe some parade-goers may have possession of a video of the incident which would aid in determining the cause of the crash. If any residents have video of the accident, they are being asked to forward them to Ptl. Pascal Gambardella at pgambardella@trpolice.org.
