A Toms River man who serves as treasurer of a Cub Scout pack in the township has been charged with embezzling money from the organization.
Louis Freund, the former treasurer of Toms River Cub Scout Pack 57, was charged with theft following an investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to a statement from Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer, Detective Denis Mitchell conducted an investigation and discovered that Freund used $4,275 entrusted to him from the Cub Scout’s account “for personal use and outside the parameters authorized by Cub Scouts.”
Freund was issued a summons and released, consistent with the state’s bail reform law, and is required to answer at a date to be set by the court.
