A propane and barbecue sales business will seek permission from Toms River planning board to expand.

The property at 642 Fischer Boulevard, Modern Propane, is planning to build a 2,013 square foot addition that will include a hardtop canopy, in order to expand its selection of barbecues and accessories. A portion of the canopy will also extend out over the existing filling station in order to protect the equipment and employees from inclement weather. Modern Propane is also proposing a vinyl awning in the front of the existing building and a trailer and outdoor storage area within the property. There are no proposed changes to the rest of the building, parking lot or existing operations, according to a filing with the planning board.

The project will require minor “bulk” variances for minimum front yard setback, parking spaces (18 would be required where 16 are proposed), plus lot frontage and depth. The hearing will be held Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. at the township municipal complex.
