Cops: Woman’s Flip Flop Led to Car Crashing Into 7-Eleven

Toms River police said no one was injured when a woman crashed her car into a 7-Eleven convenience store in the downtown area Monday.

According to police spokeswoman Jillian Messina, Debbie Abazia, 48 of Florida, pulled into the parking lot of 7-Eleven at 7 West Water Street at 4:56 p.m. and attempted to park her vehicle in front of the store.

Abazia told responding officers that her flip flop may have slipped off of her foot causing her to hit the vehicle’s accelerator and drive into the building. She drove up on to the curb and then struck a concrete trash receptacle and continued through the store front glass window, crashing into a lottery machine, sun glass display rack, and ice cream freezer, Messina said.

There were no injuries reported.
