Police on Sunday said an 18-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with another vehicle that was turning into a shopping center along Brick Boulevard, near the border with Toms River.
The motorcyclist, Christopher M. Marino Jr., of Toms River, succumbed to internal injuries at the scene of the 8:55 a.m. accident that shut down the busy roadway for about two hours. Police say speed contributed to the crash, which occurred as the driver of a Honda CR-V was making a left turn into the Bay Harbor Plaza shopping from the southbound lane.
As the Honda driver, George Osgoodby, 77, of Lakewood, was making the turn, the vehicle collided with Marino’s motorcycle, a 2016 Suzuki GSX. The force of the crash – the motorcycle impacted the side of the Honda – was powerful enough to overturn the CR-V, though Osgoodby and his passenger, Patricia Osgoodby, 76, of Lakewood, suffered back injuries.
Firefighters from Brick and Silverton in Toms River responded to extricate the passengers from the Honda. Brick Police EMS and MONOC paramedics treated the Honda occupants at the scene and transported them to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for further treatment.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has information pertaining to the crash is being asked to contact Ptl. Jay Lampiasi, Brick’s traffic safety officer, at 732-262-1141.
