If you spot a black helicopter overhead June 12 or 14, it could be the one scheduled to conduct aerial patrols for the electric company.
JCP&L has planned its “aerial patrols” to spot vegetation that could pose a problem for the power lines.
The utility announced it will begin its annual patrols June 12 through 14.
“Patrols are intended to identify conditions that may be a threat to the safety and reliability of the transmission system,” announced JCP&L/First Energy in its public service message released today.
The electric company is using Haverfield Aviation as its helicopter company. The helicopter will inspect
all JCP&L Transmission Lines while in contact with local airports’ airspace.
The helicopter will be flying at a speed of about 35-40 mph above or alongside the lines and may circle around for a closer inspection.
The black MD500 helicopter is also identifiable with a red stripe and a tail number N5027P.
