A Toms River Regional student from one of the district’s high schools has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation after a threat of some kind was apparently posted on the social media platform Instagram.

The student, nor his school, were identified. Police spokesman Ralph Stocco said the Toms River Police Department was made aware of an Instagram social media posting alluding to a “violent act.” The post was made Tuesday night.

“A cooperative investigation was immediately initiated by the police department and the Toms River Schools Superintendent’s Office,” said Stocco. “A 15-year-old student was identified and subsequently located.”

The student responsible for the post was taken into custody by law enforcement and is being detained, Stocco said.

“He will not be returning to school until the conclusion of a comprehensive evaluation by the appropriate professionals,” said Stocco.

The investigation determined that the threats were not credible.
