Police in Toms River say a man was injured when a tree fell on top of a tent he was staying in near the township’s bus station.

Police, fire, and medical units were called to the New Jersey Transit Bus Terminal, 400 Highland Parkway, at 10:40 p.m. after callers dialed 911 and reported a man was injured by a falling tree in the wooded area adjacent to the property, said police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

Upon arrival, the first responders located a 40-year-old man that was pinned to the ground by a tree that had fallen under the weight of the snow. The man, who was conscious and alert, was sleeping when the tree crashed through his tent, Stocco said.
