Hurricane Jose, which is still forecast to pass east of New Jersey’s coastline, has nonetheless prompted the National Weather Service to issue a tropical storm watch for the entire Shore area.
The watch was issued at 5 p.m. Sunday and covers Monday. While there is a chance that tropical storm force winds (above 39 m.p.h.) will be included as the storm brushes New Jersey, actual winds are forecast to be at 25-35 m.p.h. with gusts to 50 m.p.h.
The storm could also dump 2-4 inches of rain in certain locales. Storm surge information was not issued in the NWS’s advisory.
“To be safe, prepare for the potential of limited wind
impacts. Efforts should now be underway to secure all
properties,” the advisory said. “Hazardous wind is possible. Failure to adequately shelter may result in serious injury.”
The storm has the potential to take down large tree limbs, which could cause power outages, the advisory said.
