Officials on Wednesday morning announced the name of the man who was shot and killed by Toms River police at a township apartment complex on Tuesday.
Christopher Apostolos, 56, of 190 Edgewood Court in Toms River died following the shooting. MONOC paramedics responded to the scene to provide medical assistance and pronounced Apostolos deceased at 1:06 pm.
Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, said at approximately 12:30 p.m., two members of the Toms River Police Department were following up on a prior report of a person believed to be in need of professional mental health intervention services at the Silver Ridge Apartments, 109 Edgewood Court. “During the course of their investigation a physical altercation took place after making contact with the 56-year-old white male subject,” said Della Fave. “That altercation lead to the discharge of a service weapon(s).”
