Toms River police are investigating an accident that occurred Tuesday night during which a pedestrian was seriously injured, police said.
According to police spokesman Ralph Stocco, Elizabeth Rapsas, of Egret Drive, was injured in a motor vehicle crash on Fischer Boulevard near Hazelwood Drive at about 8:30 p.m.
Rapsas was a pedestrian crossing Fischer from east to west, when she was struck in the southbound right lane. A 1999 Ford Windstar minivan, driven by Joseph E. Laplaca, of Bay Avenue, attempted to brake suddenly but skidded into Rapsas, Stocco said. As a result, her head struck the lower portion of the passenger side windshield.
“At this time, there is no fault attributed to the driver of the minivan,” said Stocco.
Raspas was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune where she is undergoing treatment for “extensive injuries,” according to police.
