An overnight shooting left three people shot – one of whom later died – in Toms River, authorities said Saturday.

According to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, officers were dispatched at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday to the area of 1723 Hooper Avenue for a report of gunshots fired. It was not divulged under what circumstances authorities were notified.

Responding officers found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A 29 year-old man was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River and was pronounced deceased. The two other victims were transported to a hospital in Monmouth County for medical attention. A second 29-year-old male victim is currently in critical but stable condition. The third man, a 25-year-old, was treated for his wounds and released.

The identities of the victims were not released. The shooting reportedly occurred at the Top Tier Hookah Lounge, located in a shopping center off Hooper Avenue in the Silverton section.

Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little and Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer issued a joint statement on the incident, saying it is an “active and ongoing investigation” by the two law enforcement agencies, plus the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

“There is no known danger to the public at this time,” the statement said.
