Skies cleared just long enough for a few local residents to enjoy an couple of hours outdoors before sunset – which was marked by a unique silver tinge to the orange and pink hues that normally characterize the end of a cloudy day on Barnegat Bay.
Monday’s weather began with a severe thunderstorm early, with skies remaining mostly cloudy through the day. By about 5 p.m., the clouds moved out, ushering in a spectacular sunset (as seen above), but forecasters with the National Weather Service prepared Shore residents for a gloomy week ahead.
On Tuesday, the NWS forecast said, the day will begin with patchy fog before 10 a.m., after which the fog will list. Still, the day will remain mostly cloudy with a high of just 55 degrees. There will be a chance of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 a.m. The low will be around 50. East wind 10 to 15 m.p.h.
During the day Wednesday, there is the chance of more showers and a scattered thunderstorm. There is an 80 percent chance of rain with a high near 62 degrees. Wednesday night, there will be a slight chance of showers before 2 a.m., giving way to cloudy skies.
Sun will return Thursday, with a high near 60, but forecasters are watching another rain system that is expected to move in Friday and and linger completely through next weekend.
