BJ’s Wholesale has applied for planning board approval to add a gas station filling area to its Toms River location.
The store, located at 941 Route 37 West, does not currently feature a gas station. Planning documents state the warehouse chain will ask to install a gas filling island containing six pumps in the existing parking area. Generally, six pumps as they appear in planning documentation, would translate to 12 fuel dispensers.
The island would be accompanied by a canopy structure. Variance relief is being sought for the installation of several signs on the façade of the canopy. The board will also need to reaffirm existing variance relief that had been granted for parking area when the store was first constructed.
Details on the exact positioning and expected construction dates will be presented at the hearing, which will be held at the April 20 planning board meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. at the township municipal complex.
