An investigation into gunfire in Toms River Sunday night ended with a man being taken into police custody.
Early Sunday night, officers were dispatched to Red Cedar Street in Toms River for reports of gunfire. A preliminary investigation revealed an emotionally disturbed resident fired one shot into the air and fled the scene, the department said in a short statement.
He was subsequently located in taken to Community Medical Center for further evaluation, the statement said.
There were no injuries related to the incident. The suspect’s identity was not publicly revealed.
