Jersey Central Power & Light said overnight that 465 customers were out of power township-wide, a vastly different situation from nearby Brick, where more than 3,000 customers were without electricity.

Toms River officials were urging resident to, first and foremost, clear a three-foot swath around each fire hydrant so firefighters can more easily access them in the event of an emergency.

Township offices were, at press time, planning a 10 a.m. delayed opening Thursday. Schools were off.
