Bicyclist Injured After Hooper Avenue Collision

Toms River police are investigating an accident Friday night in which a bicyclist suffered injuries after being struck by an SUV.

The 11:18 p.m. accident Friday night occurred at the intersection of Hooper Avenue and South Shore Drive. According to police spokeswoman Jillian Messina, 20-year-old Moshe Ehrman, of Toms River, was riding his bicycle in left lane on Hooper Avenue at the time of the incident. A preliminary investigation suggested to police that Ehrman was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by Honda CR-V driven by 71-year-old Sandra Applegate, of Lakewood.

Ehrman suffered a serious head trauma and was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center in serious but stable condition, Messina said. The crash is under investigation by Toms River Traffic Officer PJ Gambardella
