Nine candidates will vie for three available seats on the Toms River Board of Education in this November’s election, including the wife of a township council member.

Monday was the filing deadline for candidates in the election, which is considered nonpartisan (though candidates are often aligned with a political party).

The field of candidates include incumbent Robert Onofrietti and former board member Ginny Rhine. Also running is Terri Kubiel, the wife of Republican township council member Brian Kubiel.

Ah, a standard Ocean County BOE election. It’s a mixture of the same old, a former same old, a nepotism warrior of an opportunity of the moment offering, and six other candidates with nonpartisan touted beliefs that, as a rule of thumb, end up in a very pretty, very partisan lifetime position. One can still dream though that one or more of the six have resumes of some substance for a change. After all, in BOE races that cost us so much and receive so little attention by the voters, 25-50 votes can change the costs and quality of local education. For better or worse.

Here we go again Read Tammy Coyle’s response to TR’s reluctance to see to the orthodox community. We should open them with open arms and watch the school budget spiral out of control with bussing being the largest expense. No thanks and where has she been at all the board meetings? Another bleeding heart Dem along with Hogan and Kaczala who are already working on political campaigns. Stick with what worked Schwartz, Rhine and Kubiel who will restore some dignity to the board. How many others are bankrupt and supposed to oversee a quarter of a billion dollar budget. How about one board member showing up tipsy at committee meetings and board meetings and another who want to further his own political career over the bones of the district who gave him his education. Drian the sewer along with the BA and some of his hires.
