Longtime Ward 1 Councilwoman Maria Maruca has her party’s support for re-election, however she is facing a primary challenge within the GOP ranks.

Maruca, of Waters Edge Drive, is being challenged by Chris Grimes, Nautilus Drive, and Justin Lamb, Buermann Avenue.

Her Democratic opponent will be Anthony Colucci, of Coolidge Avenue in Ortley Beach, a street that was particularly devastated during Superstorm Sandy.

Incumbent GOP Councilman Kevin Geoghegan, of Daisy Road, will seek re-election to represent Ward 2, and is being challenged by Democrat  Daniel Rodrick, of 10th Street.

Likewise, incumbent GOP Councilman Jeffrey Carr will seek to retain his Ward 3 seat, with a challenge coming from two competing Democrats – Laurie Huryk, of Marlane Road; and Wendell Ferandos, of Jasam Court, are both seeking their party’s nomination.

GOP incumbent Alfonso Manforti, of Lakehurst Road in Ward 4, is seeking re-election and will fend off a challenge from Democrat Terrance Turnbach, a local attorney.

Currently, Republicans control all seven council seats as well as the mayor’s office in Toms River.
