Police in Toms River say a man has been charged with stealing $100 in tips from a jar at a Route 37 restaurant.

On Nov. 20Officer Krzysztof Kowalczyk was called to the Royal Grill restaurant, located at 10 Route 37 West, after a manager called to tell police that a man entered the store and removed approximately $100 from a tip jar near the cash register, said police spokesman Ralph Stocco. The man then fled in a U-Haul truck with no license plates, but a video surveillance system captured an image of the suspect.

Two days later, police Officer Ryan Gashlin developed information that led to complaints being signed against Nicholas Mayer, 23, of Woodview Road in Toms River. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he surrendered himself Nov. 29 at police headquarters. He was processed and released on bail pending a future court date.
